Item Examination of the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS intervention strategies among older people in Tanzania: a case study of Kibaha district(Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, 2015) Igilakwo, Emmy K.The study aimed at examination of the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS intervention strategies among older people in Tanzania. The specific objectives were to examine knowledge of older people on HIV/AIDS intervention strategies, to assess the weaknesses of HIV/AIDS intervention strategies towards older people and to suggest measures to improve the existing HIV/AIDS intervention strategies to meet older people needs. A cross-sectional descriptive design was adopted to collect and analyze both primary and secondary data from respondents. Data was collected from 60 respondents using structured questionnaire, focus group discussion (FGD) and key informants in-depth Interview. The Microsoft Excel Software was used for quantitative data while thematic analysis was used for qualitative data analysis. The key study findings include First, the majority39 (65%) of all respondents said that older people are not aware of the HIV/AIDS intervention strategies. Second, it was found that the majority, 25 (42%) of respondents had opinion that the weakness of the existing strategies is failure to consider illiteracy to most of older people. Third, the majority 31(52%) of respondents suggested that awareness raising campaigns should be conducted. Conclusively, it can be argued that the current HIV/AIDS intervention strategies are not older people friendly, that is why older people are not aware of them. Therefore, social workers in collaboration with CBOS, FBOs and NGOs should actively engage in advocacy and lobbying, public sensitization and further research to ensure that older people are protected fi-om HIV/AIDS.Item Health entitlements among the older people as per national aging policy: the case of Kinondoni municipality(Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, 2015) Issa, MurshidThis study was aimed at exposing challenges faced by older people in accessing their health entitlements in the country. The study was guided by one general objective and three specific objectives both originating from National Aging Policy statements. The general objective was to examine the realization of health entitlements to older people as per National Aging Policy. While specific objectives includes to identity the level of government funding in improving health services to older people in public hospitals, to assess the quality of services provided to older people by public hospitals and to examine health personals skills in handling older patients. The study deployed the mix up of qualitative and quantitative approaches to incorporate all respondents' views and suggestions. Questionnaires and interviews were used in collecting data from respondents including non-older patients, older people patients, health personnel and hospital administrators. Study findings reveal that older people were still experiencing numerous challenges in both quality and accessibility of different health entitlements contrary to the policy statements and directives. In conclusion, the expression was on how the problem still exists and emphasizes to all stake holders to take up affirmative efforts. Recommendations to the government, Civil Society Organizations, health workers, policy makers, researchers, as well as the general community are made so as to improve health entitlements to older people. The right based approach was used as a guide towards this study.
