Abstract
From the roots of Millettia puguensis (Leguminosae), a novel iso-
flavonoid (5), 2¢-methoxy-4¢,5¢-methylenedioxy-7,8-[2-(1-me-thylethenyl)furo]isoflavone, and four known compounds, i. e., lu-peol (1), (-)-maackiain (2), 6,7-dimethoxy-3¢,4¢-methylenedioxy-isoflavone (3) and 7,2¢-dimethoxy-4¢,5¢-ylenedioxyisofla-vone (4) were isolated and identified by 1H-, 13C-NMRand massspectroscopy. All compounds were evaluated for their antiproto-zoal and cytotoxic activities, but only a moderate antileishmanialactivity was observed for compound 3 (IC 50 = 32mM againstLeishmania infantum), and a moderate cytotoxicity for com-pound 2 (IC 50 = 43
mM on MRC-5 cells)
