| dc.description.abstract | Background: Family planning continue to face challenges in Tanzania because, total fertility rate is high and currently stands at 5.2 children per woman, but the use of family planning methods is too low, whereby 38% of currently married women are using any method of FP, 32% use a modem method and only 6% use a traditional method. The use of family planning in Tanga region is 29.6% among married women, and 30% among all married and unmarried women. Objectives: To determine attitudes and socio-cultural factors affecting women use of contraceptives in Korogwe district. Material and methods: This study was based on cross-sectional study of women of reproductive age by using quantitative methods to answer the research questions. In this study systematic random sampling technique were used to obtain study participants. Result: Out of 356 respondents, 300 which are 84% responded to questionnaires distributed to them. Generally, the study shows that 68% of respondents have sufficient information concerning the contraceptives usage but only 51% of respondents use the contraceptive methods for family planning and only 30% knows at least four methods of family planning. This shows still there is no enough information concerning contraceptive methods. Conclusion and recommendation: Enough education should be provided to the society concerning the proper usage and importance of family planning itself. This is because only few methods are known and therefore limits the options for the perfect method to be used. More education has to be given to men and encouraged to get involved in family planning matters especially contraceptive use. | en_US |
