dc.description.abstractThe key aim of this study was to assess the influence of social media on youth behavior in Dar Es Salaam. The study was guided by three objectives which were establishing the time spent by youth on social media in Dar Es Salaam, identifying the topics frequently perused in the social media by the youth in Dar Es Salaam and determining the impact of social media on the youth in Dar Es Salaam. This study was based on descriptive survey. The researcher applied simple random techniques in obtaining 100 sample size. The study used only questionnaires for data collections. The findings demonstrated that most of us use social media platforms for more than 8 to ten hours in a daytime. Most social media pages being used are Facebook, WhatsApp, linked in, Viber, Twitter, Instagram and blogs. Different kind of topics is praised in the social media by youth, which are b educational issues, news bulletin, political news, phonographs, sex texting and gossips. The function of social media by youth has led to be able to sound out their judgments on different issues of their worry. Yet, the excessive utilization of social media resulted youth to have resulted for some young person to undergo mental depression for those who are not active speakers in the social they feel insulated from public. Furthermore, social media has led to defamation of public figures and leakage of confidential issues as well as cyber bullying. The survey recommends that awareness among youths concerning the cyber law in Tanzania should highly be initiated.en_US
